There are three types of baptism:
1) Baptism into Christ
2) Water Baptism
3) Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Jesus came by Water and by blood and it is the Spirit who testifies.
This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that testifies, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son. (John 5: 6-8)
According to Ephesian 4:5, there are 3 that bear record in Heaven – Father, Son and Spirit.
One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
DEAD, BURIED AND RISEN WITH CHRIST
Or don‘t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:3-11)
When we first believe in Christ, we come to a realization of the need for repentance and we are forgiven our sins through His blood sacrifice (the =Cup‘) on the cross. We die with Christ through His blood; we are buried with Him in Baptism and resurrected with Him in Newness of Life.
1. DEAD WITH CHRIST
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules? (Colossians 2: 20)
2. BURIED WITH CHRIST
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. (Colossians 2: 9)
3. RISEN WITH CHRIST
We live life THROUGH Christ. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. (Colossians 3: 1)
BAPTISM INTO CHRIST
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BAPTISM?
BAPTIZE = Grk BAPTISO which means to immerse, submerge or to fully wet.
The Foundation of Baptism is REPENTANCE. It means .a change of mind., or a change of heart and attitude. It means .to have a radical change in one‘s attitude toward sin and God.. There is the implication of awareness of a moral separation from God and a personal decision to forsake sin and enter fellowship with God.
The word that is translated as repent in the New Testament is the Greek word “metanoeo”. It means to change one’s mind, to turn back or to turn away.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. (Acts 17:28)
BECOMING A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (II Corinthians 5:17)
Notice the expression .in Christ.. What a revolutionary thing that is for believers to believe and confess! We are new creatures in Christ Jesus. We are not just forgiven sinners. We are not poor, weak, staggering, sinning, barely-getting-along church members. We are new creatures, created by God in Christ Jesus. We are new creatures with the life of God, the nature of God, and the ability of God in us. (Brother Hagin)
Go to the New Testament, primarily the epistles written to the church, and underline with a red pencil every scripture that has the expression .in Him,. .in Christ,. and .in whom.. Better yet, take several sheets of paper and write down all of these scriptures. (You will find about 133 of these scriptures.)
The moment you find them, begin to confess that this is who you are and what you have in Christ. If you will do this, I will guarantee that before many days, life will be different for you. (Brother Hagin)
While neither time nor space here permit us to go into all these scriptures, let us look at just a few.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (II Corinthians 5:17)
We are Dead WITH Him, Buried WITH Him, and Resurrected WITH Him in a NEW LIFE.
We become clothed with Christ once we are baptized. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Galatians 3:26-27)
Through death CHRIST defeats the Devil. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:14-15)
Again, Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3)
We are Baptized INTO Jesus Christ, baptized into His death, so that we may be resurrected in NEWNESS of Life. We are already living part of our eternal life by being resurrected with Him through our Baptism.
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:13-16)
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Ephesians 4:4-5)
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? (Romans 6:3-5)
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you also – not the removal of dirt from the body, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, it saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (I Peter 3:21)
and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. (Colossians 2:12)
